BOXING fans of all ages were able to meet Amir Khan as part of a charity event.

The evening was held at the Bayliss House Hotel in Stoke Poges Lane, Slough on Friday January, 23.

Just over 300 people bought tickets to the event, which included a meal and the chance for photos with the world famous boxer.

Azar Khan, one of the organisers of the event, commented: “It was a very big success and a big turnout.

“The highlight of the evening was definitely the question and answer with Amir, Ben Doughty, boxing coach, and Spencer Fearon, a boxing promoter.” The two time world champion answered questions about his career and when asked about the charity work he’s involved in, he replied: “I do a lot of charity work. Just recently I went over to Pakistan, with what happened over there, over 130 children killed in a school in Peshawar. I wanted to go there to build awareness and make a difference.

“I’m starting gyms up in Pakistan as well. It’s about giving kids a chance, giving them an opportunity.” Mr Khan went on to talk about the gym that he’d set up in Bolton - providing young people with a place to do homework, revision, and a gym to train in, while keeping them off the streets and away from trouble with police.

He said; “You can’t forget your roots as well. I’m from the UK, I’m from Bolton, you have to support your local community.” The audience were also given the opportunity to ask Mr Khan questions with one guest asking what he valued most.

He answered, “My parents, my daughter, my wife and boxing.” The evening was a lot fun and managed to raise several thousand pounds which will go towards the charities, Poppy’s Path and the Amir Khan Foundation.
