HUNDREDS of Beavers, Cubs and Scouts came together for a day of fundraising fun.

The Woodlands District Jamboree 2015 took over Dorneywood campsite in Burnham, on Saturday.

The youngsters from groups in Hedgerley, Iver, Iver Heath, Burnham and Hitcham, Lent Rise and Dorney, Stoke Poges, and Taplow enjoyed a host of activities in the sun including climbing and jousting.

Eight members from the Woodlands District have been selected to take part in the 23rd Jamboree, held in Japan at the end of July.

To get out there they must raise £3,200 and Saturday’s event, organised by Henri Toone, 17, the Jamboree group’s leader, was part of their fundraising efforts.

The day began at 10.30am with the raising of St George’s flag and ended with a big campfire in the evening.

Throughout the day there was hot air balloon making, jousting with wooden horses, popcorn making on an open fire, pancake making on top of a tin and branding pieces of wood.

There was even a climbing wall and caving system.

As part of the Jamboree, the eight will spend time at the campsite, a few days exploring Tokyo and even some time staying with a Japanese family.

Chris Leister-Crowe, Assistant Scout Leader at 1st Hedgerley Scouts, said: “The comradery – it was a lovely, lovely atmosphere – to see the scouts taking part in the activities or sitting round in groups, and some of the Beavers were rolling down the hill.

“We were proud of Henri – it’s a tremendous thing to organise something so big.” For plenty more pictures, see today's Observer
