FORMER champion jockey Ryan Moore landed a 40-1 double at Royal Windsor Racecourse on Monday night.

Moore, who last won the British Flat Racing Championship back in 2009, rode Torment (8-1) and Foxtrot Knight (7-2) to victory at the Berkshire track.

The first race was a two-year-old maiden over six furlongs, which Torment, pictured above in centre, won impressively for the Richard Hannon stable.

Buried amongst the pack in seventh place with a furlong to go, Moore angled him towards the outside where he ran on strongly to score by a length and three quarters from Menai (2-1 favourite).

Next came a one and a quarter mile claimer where four horses, very tightly bunched, were vying for the lead inside the final furlong.

Though far from being entitled to win on these terms, it was 13-times winner Munsarim (25-1) who plugged on most determinedly for Amir Quinn to get a head in front of Symphony Of Kings (2-1) in the last few strides.

Ed Walker has had three winners from seven runners at Windsor so far in 2015 and his Persona Grata (5-2 joint-favourite) improved his strike rate even more by coming from last to first under George Baker.

They landed a fairly comfortable length and a half success over Tears Of The Sun (11-2) in the one and a quarter mile handicap.

Foxtrot Romeo justified market support from 6-1 into 7-2 in the five furlong handicap, running prominently before taking over from Cartmell Cleave with over a furlong to go.

The length and a quarter winner was a rare runner at the Berkshire track from Ruth Carr’s North Yorkshire yard.

Luca Cumani is known for his skill with fillies and Aranka (7-2) won the six furlong maiden, running fourth until moving up and taking the lead with 100-yards to run.

Adam Kirby rode her out to a one length victory over Time Flies (6-4), who has ability but looks an awkward ride.

The last race over six furlongs featured a major gamble on Explain from 6-1 in the morning to 13-8 favourite.

Blinkered for the first time, this Martyn Meade-trained colt succeeded in eye-catching style.

Fergus Sweeney drove him into the lead a furlong and a half out, and steadily drew well clear.

You’re My Cracker (10-1) finished over four lengths away in second.

Racing returns to Royal Windsor this Monday for a seven-race card which begins at 5.50pm and features competitive handicaps over six furlongs and a mile.

Previous course winners Midnight Rider, Elusive Guest, Lady Marl, Monsieur Chevalier and Uncle Dermot have all been given early entries.
