SLOUGH’S MP has launched a new lobbying group to get the voices of older women in society heard.
The Rt Hon Fiona Mactaggart MP launched the Older Women’s Lobby (OWL) at the Labour Party’s Women’s Conference held on Saturday as part of the wider Labour Party conference.
OWL groups will be formed in Labour Party branches up and down the country to make sure that the views of older women are promoted and policy created by the Labour Party does not overlook the problems the social group faces.
Speaking after the launch of OWL, Ms Mactaggart said: “Research by beauty company L’Oreal shows women over 50 feel they are being completely overlooked.
“Our aim is to bring older women together to campaign for a fair deal at work and support in their role as carers for children, grandchildren and elderly parents.
“Older women have faced unfair delays before they qualify for the pensions they saved for.
“Older women help their communities by supporting others and yet quite often they don’t get the support they need.”
