MORE than 60 looked-after children rocked down the red carpet for an evening of entertainment, food and star-studded awards.
Slough's children in care enjoyed a glittering awards ceremony, celebrating their achievements and diversity, at the Pinewood Hotel, Slough on Thursday, November 12.
Organised by the Slough Children's Services Trust (SCST), the evening included a buffet, fancy dress photo booth and an inspirational speech from David Akinsanya, a broadcaster who now works closely with looked-after children, having previously lived in care himself.
Children and young people performed on the evening, with guests enjoying a moving rendition of Leonard Cohen’s 'Hallejulah' on the saxophone and a duet performance of Bill Withers’ ‘Lean on me’, accompanied on guitar.
Billie-Jo Rosbottom, a 21-year-old who received an award at the event, said: "The awards help young people realise they have real potential and can achieve great things, even when they are growing up in difficult circumstances. They really give young people hope.”
