AN OVERGROWN grass bank is creating a hazard for children walking to school as it has created two blind bends in the road.

The banks on the edge of Lynch Hill Lane have become "ridiculous" according to Stephen Smith, who regularly walks his dogs along the route.

Mr Smith, of Rokesby Road, had a near miss on Friday last week as he went to cross the road, only for a motorist to come round the corner, forcing him to jump back onto the curb.

He said: "The overgrowth is now nearly four foot high. When you try to cross from the valley into the woods [Cocksherd Wood], you cannot see because the bank has not been cut.

"A car came round the bend quickly and I had to jump back on to the curb with my dogs - somebody is going to have a serious accident. One of the children or their parents is going to get hurt.

"It is ridiculous and someone is going to get seriously injured.

"At the minute it is a blind bend. When it is cut you can see right across the site and you can see the traffic coming round.

"I walk my dogs through the woods all the time and come this way. Everyone walks their dogs round there."

The 20mph road circles around Lynch Hill Valley, a green space near to Lynch Hill School Primary Academy.

Mr Smith says parents regularly walk their children to school, cutting through the valley via a footpath.

A council spokeswoman said the number of cuts had been reduced two years ago from five per year to four.

She said: "We have received a complaint about the grass in Lynch Hill Lane. We are aware of the problem and it is an issue right across the borough.

"We understand people's concerns and we will be getting around as soon as possible."

She added that the mixed weather in June has not helped with the speedy growth of grass across Slough.

She said: "The weather throughout June has been warm and wet but we normally get one or the other, making it the perfect storm for grass growth.

"The banks in Lynch Hill Lane are due another cut this month. We would encourage drivers to drive at the speed limit."
