THERE was a special ceremony to celebrate the achievements of young people in Slough last week More than 200 people turned up to this year's Slough Youth Awards, showcasing the talents of budding artists, sportsmen, entrepreneurs and more.

It was hosted by members of Slough's Youth Parliament, and local business leaders and dignitaries were on hand to present the awards.

Youth worker Giovanni Ferri praised the event, adding: "The awards ceremony was inspiring and celebrated the contribution young people make to the town by showcasing their achievements and talents. The event fulfilled another youth parliament manifesto commitment to raise profile of young people in a positive way."

Sofia Cardoso won this year's Young Ambassador award, while Regina Lubiatowska landed the Young Sportsperson award.

Masood Ul Haque won the Young Entrepreneur title this year, and the Young Environmentalist crown went to Shyam Fatania.

The Young Inspiration Award went to Romina Ejaz.

Councillor Sohail Munawar, leader of Slough Borough Council, added: “It was an honour to be at the awards ceremony and see first hand how many talented young people we have in Slough. I was truly inspired by the passion they have for Slough and I will be doing all I can to ensure they and their peers have their say in its future.

“I’d like to thank everyone who supported the event, not least Slough Youth Parliament, who did an excellent job of hosting.

“I look forward to next year’s event.”
