A WOMAN who died on Friday morning after she was struck by a skip lorry as she attempted to cross part of the A4 in Slough has been named.

The victim was Gurcharan Kayur Basra, 69, of Sherborne Close, Colnbrook.

Witnesses told of their shock as they described how the lorry had hit Mrs Basra, knocking her to the ground.

The incident happened at 8.50am at the crossing just outside Tesco Extra on Wellington Street, Slough.

One passer-by said Mrs Basra had started crossing the road when the lights were green for traffic before turning back, but it was too late.

Witnesses at the scene told this newspaper that two lorries were involved in the incident, however police have since said that she was only struck by one vehicle.

The emergency services performed CPR before taking Mrs Basra to hospital at 9.23am where she was later pronounced dead.

Her next of kin have been informed.

Zunaira Awan, 38, from the Upton area of Slough, witnessed the immediate aftermath of the incident.

She said: "I saw someone lying on the floor, at first I thought they had tripped and fallen over. As I got closer there was blood everywhere so she'd been hit pretty badly.

"She was still breathing, there was eye contact.

"I spoke to her in Urdu and I saw her eyes move, so it registered.

"It was a complete shock. I've seen her around before. I come here every morning to get my coffee (Queensmere Shopping Centre) before I head off to work.

"I've never seen that before. It was just incredible."

Anyone who saw the incident should call the police on 101 or contact charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
