DHL’s brand new South East hub was officially opened in Poyle by Transport Secretary Chris Grayling last week.
The Poyle 14 building on Newlands Drive will employ 750 people and play an important part in DHL’s UK operation, managing DHL Express shipments for the South East of England.
Mr Grayling was shown around the new facility by the new DHL UK and Ireland CEO Ian Wilson who took up the role in January.
The hub, which cost about €65 million (£56 million), will run 24/7 and is estimated to be four times more efficient than DHL’s previous facility in Hounslow, with the capacity to process around 28,000 items per hour.
The building also features a gym for staff members and hopes to cut carbon emissions through green energy use.
Mr Grayling said: “I am delighted to open DHL Express’s Southern Hub, a new state-of the-art facility that will help boost trade links between the UK and markets world-wide.”
