THE FUTURE of the Sussex Place doctor's surgery in Slough looks unclear as an alternative premises is still yet to be found.

The surgery's lease expired in December 2016 and the building has been declared not fit for purpose.

A meeting is to be held with patients in order for them to air their opinions as a resolution is sought.

Grant Streeter, Manager of the Upton Medical Partnership said: "The building is an old converted house with consulting rooms on the first floor with no lift and very limited parking for patients.

"It is not suitable as a building to provide healthcare for the future and as a result the practice does not want to enter into new long term lease.

"Over the last few years, along with Slough Council, Slough CCG and a third party developer the practice has tried to identify a suitable alternative central Slough site, but nothing has yet been found.

"As part of a contingency process the practice has called a meeting of patients who attend The Sussex Place site to hear their views with regard to the future of the surgery.

"No decision has been made to close The Sussex Place Surgery and at this stage the practice is keen to obtain the views of as many patients as possible before making any decision."

Dr Jim O’Donnell Clinical Chair for Slough CCG said: "As you would expect the health and care needs of our patient population are paramount in any decisions concerning future services.

"Decisions have yet to be made with regard to the future of the Sussex Place Surgery.

"We will be discussing the accommodation requirements with the practice and local patients over the coming weeks and aim to provide every possible support.

"We are confident we can arrive at a solution that will be acceptable to our local population and will be working with the Patient Reference Group Forum in Slough to guide us in our way forward."
