Volunteers collected nearly 90 bags of litter from the streets of Colnbrook during a weekend clean-up that lasted two days.

It was organised by Slough Borough Council and Colnbrook Parish and involved the Residents Association, Community Association, the Village Hall Trust, scouts, businesses and volunteers who live in the village..

Councillor Joginder Bal, Slough cabinet member for environment and leisure, said: β€œIt is wonderful to see such great community spirit turn into action. Thank you to everyone for their efforts. The council and parish council will continue to work together with community groups and the wider community on key areas of concern.”

Slough Borough Council collected the bags of litter at the end of each day, local waste company Lanz funded the removal of the vegetation that was cut back and the bulky items identified during the weekend including mattresses, tyres, fridges - while Tesco provided refreshments to all the volunteers.

Parish councillors and volunteers also cut back vegetation and painted the old Poyle Hand Pump and adjacent posts on Bath Road.

Community clean ups are currently being organised with Langley Neighbourhood Action Group and Langley Neighbourhood Forum on Saturday, September 23 and with Foxborough Neighbourhood Action Group on Saturday, September 30.

There are plans to work in partnership again in Colnbrook for another clean up in March, to tie in with the national Keep Britain Tidy campaign.
