A NEW school has been formally opened.

Ditton Park Academy, in King’s Reach, Slough, was officially launched on Friday of last week, opening up an additional 1,100 places for pupils.

Pupils first moved into the new building on September 11, from the school’s temporary accommodation on the former site of Thames Valley University in Wellington Street. where they have been for the last three years.

The ribbon was cut by Jo Rockall, headteacher of Herschel Grammar School, and was attended by a number of people and organisations that had been involved in its construction, including representatives of the Department of Education, Slough Borough Council, the Education Skills and Funding Agency, and the builders, Galliford Try.

Ditton principal, Nick Caulfield, said: “In June 2017 the academy received a good grading from Ofsted in every category, under the most challenging of circumstances.

Mr Caulfield said that the new building had a full suite of sport and educational facilities, including pitches for football, hockey, basketball, and in the near future, trampolining.

“We cannot thank everyone enough who has been involved in making this school a success, as it will change the life chances of many young people for years to come.”
