A MOVE to bring a university hub back into Slough is underway.

It could mean that a new building is introduced on the former Thames Valley University site in Wellington Street (pictured), which is already earmarked for a massive 1,400 homes plan.

Leader of the council, Cllr Sohail Munawar, told the Slough Youth Awards event last week at The Curve that initial plans had brought “tears to my eyes”. He said he would want youngsters’ input once Slough Borough Council went public.

A council spokeswoman said: “It is councillor Munawar’s ambition to have a university back in Slough.

"This would be for some kind of facility whether part of another university or part of a research facility (R&D).

"Whether that is on the old TVU site or not, is not clear at this stage.”

She added that a possible masterplan/vision document would probably not be forthcoming until the New Year but added: “He is clear (Cllr Munawar) that it is something he wants and to do that we will be speaking to universities and other boroughs."
