THE NEW leader of Slough's Labour Group has been elected.
A Labour spokesperson confirmed that Cllr James Swindlehurst, of the Cippenham Green ward, has been voted in as the new leader of the Group.
Cllr Swindlehurst has also become the Labour Group's nomination to take over the role of leader of Slough Borough Council.
Cllr Munawar is currently the leader of SBC, however there is a motion in place at the full council meeting tonight (Tuesday) to initiate a vote of no confidence against him.
Cllr Swindlehurst has previously been the deputy leader of Slough Borough Council (SBC), back when the council was being lead Cllr Rob Anderson. He has been a Slough councillor for 15 years, and has held three cabinet posts over his career, most recently for Regeneration and Urban Renewal.
Cllr Swindlehurst said: "I am extremely proud to have been elected Leader of the Labour Group, and want to thank my fellow councillors for placing their trust in me to take Slough and the Labour Group’s priorities forward.
"Slough is going through an enormous period of transformation; there is a lot of work to do and some difficult decisions ahead. I will be working day and night to ensure every Slough resident benefits from the amazing opportunities coming to our town.”
