A SCHOOL mixed maths with games last week as droves of students took part in an afternoon of fun-based learning – and helped raise money for charity.

Older students at special school Arbour Vale in Farnham Road, Slough, created the number challenges for their younger counterparts. The students could collect tokens by winning games, and exchange them for prizes or cake in another part of the school.

Money was raised for children’s charity, the NSPCC, with students bringing in loose change to donate in exchange for taking part.

It was also part of a wider bid to get the children thinking about maths in practical situations.

Leading practitioner for maths, Sunny Garcha, 41, said: “This was the first time they have used real money and used it for a learning opportunity to win prizes.

“My aim was to make it bigger than the year before, we had a bigger budget so the kids got very excited about what was on offer.”
