A BELATED event is to held to celebrate International Women’s Day.

The ‘Press for Progress’ event was originally planned for March, but had to be postponed due to bad weather. The new date is tomorrow (Saturday), in the Town Square, Slough, 1pm to 5pm.

The event will feature a range of performances from women’s groups, including dhol drummers, Bollywood dancers, Polish dancers, contemporary dancers, Irish music and belly dancers.

Detective Chief Inspector Nikki Pierce, police commander for Slough, will be speaking at the event.

DCI Pierce said: “We would love the communities to join us in the town centre this weekend to celebrate International Women’s Day. It is an opportunity to watch and listen to some of Sloughs most talented groups and individuals, whilst campaigning for #PressforProgress.”

Cllr Natasa Pantelic, cabinet member for health and social care at Slough Borough Council said: “This is a fantastic joint event to promote and celebrate International Women’s Day through dance and music performances from some of the town’s most talented groups.

“I hope that the event will encourage people who are in the town centre over the weekend to stop and listen and perhaps make a stand and sign up to the #PressforProgress campaign to improve gender parity across the world.”
