A FOOTBALL pitch has been burnt by a grass fire, leaving a team without a space to play.

Delaford Football Club, who play on Iver Recreation Ground, had their pitch scorched by a grass fire on Monday at 3.14pm. Two fire engines attended, one from Gerrards Cross and one from Langley, who used hose reels to extinguish the blaze.

First team manager at Delaford FC, Stuart Marks, said: "Around half the pitch has been burnt away. We're trying to re-organise things so we have only away games for the whole of September, but after that we may have to find a new pitch. I'm just hoping that somehow the grass can be repaired.

"This is all a great shame, as it causes a lot of problems for us now, and means we have to hunt around for somewhere to play."

Buckinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service said that they believed the fire had been started accidentally.
