A GROUP of volunteers highlighted the amount of junk thrown in rivers – by turning it into a sculpture.

A group of 24 volunteers from youth group Aik Saath used kayaks and industrial magnets to drag metallic rubbish out of Slough canal - which included old bikes, shopping trollies, and prams.

With the help of an Old Windsor based artist, Alexis Milne, the rubbish was turned into a sculpture of a dragon, dubbed ‘Junkzilla’. It has since been taken down and recycled.

CEO of Aik Saath, Rob Deeks, said: “Using the magnets was quite exciting, as you never knew what you would drag out next. It was a great success and we would be happy to do it again.”
