AN ARTIST is releasing her first short film.

RUE Gumbochuma, 25, of Surrey Quays, London, has created a short music and poetry film set in London, focused on a relationship between two women.

Miss Gumbochuma said: "I grew up in Slough, in Manor Park, and went to Baylis Court School, which was the starting point of my artistic journey. It was the first place I recorded anything musical, and was where I did my music GCSE. The teachers there really encouraged me to explore the arts.

"About two years ago, I released 'The Summer Collection' on Soundcloud, a collection of music inspired by the summer of 2016. My upcoming release, 'The Winter Collection', is based on a past relationship, which inspired me to create a short film.

"It got a lot of interest in my artistic circles here, and I got a producer who works for Sony Music onboard, along with a couple of freelancers."

The film is directed by Somayeh Jafari, and includes the work of London-based rapper Malick IV, who opens up about his feelings of self doubt, depression, and love, which is echoed in the narrative of the film.

Miss Gumbochuma said: "This is all a prelude to my upcoming debut EP, which will hopefully be released by the end of the year. I just wanted to say thank you to all the people back in my hometown who helped me get here."

The Winter Collection released on Spotify, Apple Music and YouTube today (Friday). You can follow Miss Gumbochuma's projects through her social media handle 'BeingRue' on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram.
