A century of ‘votes for women’ was celebrated when Burnham Parish Council held an evening of inspiration, recognition and celebration on Sunday.
It took place in a packed Burnham Park Hall, sponsored by the Women’s Centenary Vote Fund.
The discussion was opened by Fiona Mactaggart chair of the Fawcett Society the UK’s leading charity for gender equality and former MP for Slough. Lydia Simmons OBE shared her experiences as the first black female mayor in Slough and England, while Sandeep Tak, a young professional footballer for QPR, told her story.
The film Suffragette was then shown.
