THE 22ND Windsor Lions Swimathon on Sunday attracted 36 teams to the Leisure Centre in Stovell Road - all braving the water to raise money for their favourite good causes.

Co-ordinator Mike Sells said: "We did not have quite as many teams as last year but we know they made £7,000 for good causes and once the sponsorship money is all in it is likely to reach £9,000 or £10,000."

The Royal Borough's mayor Cllr Paul Lion looked in during the morning to support his team.

Among the other teams the amazing Electric Eels - whose members all have Down's Syndrome - were on top form.

Their amazing success in synchronised swimming has taken them all over the world.

Mr Sells said: "Children and adults all swimming together creates a great atmosphere. There is a wall of noise and enthusiasm.

"Some teams have registered for next year already which is a sign of how much everyone enjoyed it."

At 22 not out the swimathon clearly has many good years ahead.

The Lions will hold their usual award evening in January aimed at both participants in the swimathon and in the horse ride event held earlier in the year in the Great Park - with prizes for those who raised the most money for good causes and achieved the most impressive sporting results.
