THE Guildhall in Windsor will be magically transformed into an Italian castle on the shores of the Mediterranean later this month - thanks a leading drama group.

Windsor Theatre Guild will be presenting the play Enchanted April - about four ladies who team up to rent the castle a century ago.

Lotty is a browbeaten housewife trapped in a bleak marriage to a pompous solicitor while Rose is neglected by her author husband. Making up the awkward quartet is the difficult, autocratic and elderly Mrs Graves and the reclusive socialite Lady Caroline Bramble.

Tempers fray and personalities clash but gradually the scent of freesias, the wisteria blossom, the April light and the Italian sun work their magic and the ladies start to be transformed, discovering a few truths about themselves and the men in their lives.

The play is directed by veteran Theatre Guild member Mavis Froud.

Windsor Theatre Guild is run as a charity and can trace its history back to 1939. Its open air Shakespeare productions are legendary and in recent years its annual productions at the Guildhall have become a landmark in the Windsor calendar.

Enchanted April runs from Tuesday, November 20 to Saturday, November  24 at 8pm at the Guildhall. Tickets are available at £14 (£!2 concessions) on 0333 666 3366 or www.ticketsource.co.uk/wtg
