Planning officers have recommended that the proposed Landing development in Maidenhead be refused by the Royal Borough Council after releasing a report raising several concerns.

In a report, the officers declared that the project would have a ‘substanital detrimental impact on the town’ and the fate of the 344 home development now lies with the Maidenhead Development Management Panel, who will meet on Wednesday, November 21 to make a decision.

The report went on to suggest that the development could lead to a ‘visually overbearing wall of development’.

Managing director of HUB, the company in charge of the development, Steve Sanham said: “We have been engaged in a constructive dialogue with the council’s planning department over many months and have adapted our proposals in response to feedback.

“This has largely been a constructive and positive process, so the move by planning officers to recommend refusal for our planning application has come as a surprise and is extremely disappointing.

“Importantly, however, the ultimate decision on this application will be made by elected members, who must consider the broader interests of Maidenhead.”

Leader of the council, Simon Dudley has come out in favour of the plans and stated that he intends to vote in opposition of the recommendations.

On Twitter, Cllr Dudley said: “The Landing site #Maidenhead twice failed to achieve a viable @MaidenheadRegen proposition that would happen.

“On Wednesday next week, I will speak in favour of the latest application. Despite reservations, now is the moment to embrace a deliverable scheme for the good of the town.”
