Official Centenary Remembrance events were held across the Royal Borough on November 11.

But this did not prevent smaller, more personal ceremonies also being held.

The Broom Farm Estate at Oakley Green houses the families of soldiers from the nearby barracks and has its own school.

Alexander First School is based at Kenneally on the estate and its pupils gathered at Broom Farm’s Memorial Gardens to lay their own wreath a few days before the official memorial events.

Holding their ceremony early enabled the Royal Borough’s mayor Cllr Paul Lion to join them.

Cllr Ed Wilson, who represents the Clewer South ward on the Royal Borough, was also there.

He said: “It was good to welcome the mayor and mayoress to Broom Farm for this simple and informal act of remembrance. I was also pleased to see the children from Alexander First School setting a great example.”
