Shameless vandals have smashed up a police car while officers attended a nearby incident.

The shock attack left the car with smashed windows and damaged bodywork. It has left police and residents of Colnbrook where the attack happened shocked and angry.

Officers had been called to deal with an incident in the village in the early hours of New Year’s Eve and parked their vehicle at the junction of Drift Way and Brookside.

They returned at about 1.25am to discover their vehicle had been attacked by reckless vandals, who did not seem to have even cared that the officers were clearly in the vicinity.

Thames Valley police have said that the car will be out of action for several days while repairs are carried out.

The incident has been particularly disappointing at a time when Colnbrook has seen a reduction in anti-social behaviour after a recent period in which it became a problem.

There was another incident of vandalism in the village on New Year's Day when emergency services were called to Mill Street, where bins containing cardboard were set alight behind the Budgens store.

Fire crews managed to deal swiftly with the incident in just four minutes ensuring no further damage was caused to the nearby shops and housing.

Charles Burke, who is secretary of Colnbrook Community Association, said: "The incident involving the police car is absolutely disgusting. We have seen a reduction in anti-social behaviour in the village in recent months, these are the first two incidents we have been made aware of in quite some time. Hopefully this is are not a return to what we have seen previously.”

An appeal has been launched for information from anyone who may know anything about the attack on the police car. . Thames Valley Police have asked for anyone with information on the event to call 101 quoting the reference number 43180396035.
