HISTORIC photographs, a Slough half marathon medal and even a Mars bar are amongst the items that have been buried in a time capsule at the council’s new leisure centre.

The Centre in Farnham Road, which is due to open to the public in the Spring, will include a 25m eight lane swimming pool with viewing gallery, 15m x 8.5m teaching pool with moveable floor, sauna and steam room, four court sports with specialist LED lit flooring, 115 station gym, three exercise studios, male and female changing facilities and cafe.

Students and staff from the Slough Centre Nursery and the Herschel Grammar School joined Councillor James Swindlehurst, leader of the council and Councillor Rob Anderson, cabinet measure for the environment at the burial of the capsule representing Slough's leisure history.

The youngsters helping cover the time capsule in sand as it was buried in front of The Centre, ready to be marked with an engraved plaque.

Also in attendance were representatives from Slough Urban Renewal, leisure provider Everyone Active and contractors Morgan Sindall.

Councillor Rob Anderson, cabinet member for environment and leisure, said: “The Centre leisure facility is fast approaching completion and I become more and more impressed every time I visit.

“It will join Arbour Park, Slough Ice Arena, Salt Hill Activity Centre and Langley Leisure to complete our impressive provision of state-of-the-art leisure facilities in the town. Our broad range of leisure options means there really is something for all our residents to use and enjoy.”

When the new facility opens it will be managed by the council’s leisure provider Everyone Active. The leisure management company began a 10-year partnership with the council in June 2017.
