THE Duke of Edinburgh was recovering at Sandringham today after escaping uninjured in a dramatic road crash near the royal estate.
Prince Philip's Land Rover overturned during the collision, which is understood to have happened as he emerged from a driveway.
Norfolk County Council was already due to discuss safety issues on the road - described as a "rat run" by one local - before the crash took place.
The authority is expected to lower the maximum speed limit from 60mph to 50mph and approve installing average speed cameras on the road.
Two people in the other car involved in the crash including a baby were taken to hospital to be treated for minor injuries and have since been released.
The Duke is understood to have been helped out of the Land Rover by a passer-by and immediately went to the other vehicle to check that the occupants were all right.
Pictures of the site reveal how serious the accident was with debris scattered across the road.
Police have confirmed that the Duke and the other driver had passed breathalyser tests.
