A CARER who faces two charges of causing death by careless driving has appeared at the crown court.

Agne Jasulaitiene, of Talavera Close, Binfield, did not enter a plea in connection with the deaths of PC James Dixon and 91-year-old Gladys Goodwin.

The duo were killed after a crash on the A4 in Hare Hatch on December 5, 2017.

Jasulaitiene, 35, appeared at Reading Crown Court on January 18 for a plea and pre-trial preparation hearing after being charged by police.

PC Dixon was an off-duty officer, while Mrs Goodwin is believed to have been a passenger in the vehicle being driven by Jasulaitiene.

She will next appear at the crown court on March 15, when she is expected to make a plea.

A provisional trial date has been fixed for July 1 and her bail was extended until the next hearing.

Sussex Police carried out an independent investigation into the crash on behalf of Thames Valley Police, while the Independent Office for Police Conduct probe is ongoing.

PC Dixon's wife, Samantha, was pregnant with their first child at the time of his death.

She gave birth to a son three months later and named the baby Parker Cameron James Dixon.

The officer, who was based at Loddon Valley police station, died at the scene of the crash.

Speaking after his funeral, Samantha said: “He was a loving husband, excited father-to-be, caring son and brother and genuine friend to many. He was one of life’s legends.

“We are all truly heartbroken and devastated by his loss. His death leaves behind a hole that can never and will never be filled. He will be missed forever and never forgotten.”

Mrs Goodwin was killed by the impact and her daughter Sandra Blunden said she would be 'completely lost without her'.

She said: “Mum was a fun loving, jolly lady that everybody loved as soon as they met her.

"We were together nearly all hours of every day.

"I will be completely lost without her. She was full of fun and laughter and never had a bad word to say."
