Slough has ranked in first place in a new business report.

The UK Business Performance Report 2019 gathered by Creditsafe ranks the average net assets of businesses. The figures are calculated by looking at a sample set of business’ cash, inventory, accounts receivable, land, equipment and buildings.

Businesses in Slough were ranked first in the list of top cities and towns based outside of London. The top ten are:

1. Slough (£25.3 million)

2. Edinburgh (£19.9 million)

3. Reading (£18.4 million)

4. Guildford (£12.9 million)

5. Telford (£10.2 million)

6. Leeds (£6.2 million)

7. Redhill (£5.5 million)

8. Luton (£5.1 million)

9. Cambridge (£5.0 million)

10. Warrington (£4.6 million)

Commenting on the figures, Chris Robertson, CEO UK and Ireland at Creditsafe, said:

“These latest figures showcase the importance of businesses outside of London and while it’s great to see that companies in Slough continue to go from strength to strength, it’s particularly encouraging to find a diverse spread of localities when we calculated the top towns and cities based on their average net assets."

Entrepreneur Gilles Baudet added:

“London, naturally is expensive and as time has gone on, surroundings areas such as Slough have cottoned on to a very real opportunity to offer a more realistic and affordable way to do business and without being geographically too far removed from the London bubble.

“Cheaper commercial property prices both for rent and purchase can save a business hundreds of thousands of pounds in some cases and cheaper running costs make Slough an increasingly attractive location for businesses to operate from.”
