The charity behind the Royal Borough's new children's hospice has received a welcome £1,000 donation.

The Alexander Devine Children’s Hospice Service recently opened the hospice at Snowball Hill, Maidenhead. But the charity has been active since 2007 providing care and support for children with life-limiting and life-threatening conditions and their families.

It currently supports over 113 families across Berkshire both in their own homes as well as in its new hospice building that boasts a sensory room, hydrotherapy pool, music room and creative learning zone.

The latest donation came from Legal & General Homes, as part of the housebuilder’s quarterly grant scheme. The company has a token donation box at its Buckler’s Park Visitors Centre in Crowthorne, where visitors to its new development can vote for one of three local charities to receive the largest share of a £2,000 fund.

Julia Philipson, community fundraiser at Alexander Devine said: “We are so grateful to everyone who voted for us at the Buckler’s Park Visitors Centre. Our children’s hospice service is helping to make a real difference to so many families, bringing love, laughter and memories into their lives at the most challenging of times. We rely heavily on the generosity and support of our local community to continue our work and to be able to reach even more families that need us.”

South East Berkshire Gang Show – the scouts and guides’ theatre group – and family-support charity Home Start were also supported this quarter and received donations of £600 and £400 respectively.
