Two university staff members are set to take on the Three Peaks Challenge for charity.

Marcus Wood, a principal registry officer, and Julie Irwin, director of student success at Bucks New University, will climb each of the highest mountains in England, Scotland and Wales for The Children’s Society.

They will walk a total of 23 miles, with the ascent totalling 3,064 metres (10,052 ft) with students and staff from universities around the country. The pair hope to raise £1,200 for the charity.

Mr Wood said: “This is in aid of a fantastic cause and we hope we can raise a significant amount of money. The Children’s Society work directly with children who may be caring for a family member or experiencing exploitation or poverty.

“It’s not going to be easy and we’re under no illusion about the challenge but we’re confident about achieving it.”
