Work on a £2.2 million sustainable travel scheme, which includes a shared footpath and cycleway, between Burnham and Taplow is due to start next month.
The scheme, in Bath Road, will connect with national and local cycle networks, give bus passengers real-time information about their connections and encourage more people to walk or cycle to rail stations served by the new Crossrail service.
On Monday, April 1 utility companies will start work on realigning cables and ducts before Transport for Buckinghamshire starts widening the footpath and upgrading pedestrian crossings.
While utility work is taking place, temporary lights will control traffic at various points along the route – usually between 9.30am and 3.30pm.
Electronic real-time passenger information will be installed at seven bus stops along the route as well as a 1.8-mile shared footway and cycleway.
Cabinet member for transport at Bucks County Council, Mark Shaw, said: “We've listened to residents' concerns, and we've made as many modifications as we can within the budget and within safety standards, and I'm confident this scheme will be a strong support to our sustainable travel aspirations.
"I appreciate the work may cause some inconvenience, and I apologise in advance, however I believe the short term pain will be worth the long term gain."
The work is expected to take 32 weeks and it is expected the scheme will be completed by the end of November.

The temporary traffic lights will be in place at the following locations:
April 2 to 4 - Miller and Carter pub to Approach Road - three way lights
April 8 - east of Bath Road railway bridge - two way lights
April 9 - Taplow station entrance - two way lights
April 10 - opposite Giant Car Boot site - two way lights
April 11 - east of Lent Rise roundabout - two way lights
April 15 to 17 - Minton Rise and Hurstfield Drive - two way lights
April 18 to 19 - Alvista Avenue - two way lights
Narrow lanes and a footpath closure in Bath Road between Ellington Road and Jubilee river bridge will operate from April 1 to 2 and April 5 to 6
