Frustrated residents living in a village plagued by chaotic parking say their concerns are being “ignored” as scores of drivers continue to park across driveways and on grass verges.

People living in Chalfont St Peter says parking in Lower Road regularly puts pedestrians in danger – and they have made fresh calls to Transport for Bucks to tackle the ongoing issue.

Residents say they have previously contacted MP Dame Cheryl Gillan, Bucks County Council, Chiltern District Council in desperate bids to solve the problem – however they feel they are being “ignored”.

Chalfont St Peter resident, Anne Marie Vladar, says the village “desperately needs a safe parking solution”, including time-limited parking bays and permit parking.

Addressing a meeting of The Chalfonts Local Area Forum (LAF) – which allocates county council cash to community projects – Anne Marie said: “This is an ideal opportunity to sort an awful lot of ongoing issues in the village.

“A few of the issues that we have had that have been raised by residents their concerns are safety.

“It is currently a danger to go along the footpath and even drive along Lower Road.

“Numerous residents have witnessed accidents, damage to cars, people getting out of cars and facing off because they are impatient.

“We have a lot of children walking along the road, mums with pushchairs, we need safe roads and junctions.

“What we need is staggered parking. No one is objecting to day time parking, we need people to park to slow the traffic down otherwise it will become a speedway.

“Limited waiting, and permit parking in the wider village.”

The LAF has agreed to allocate as portion of its £22,330 annual budget towards a feasibility study into changing parking restrictions in Chalfont St Peter – however match funding will have to be found to meet the full cost of the project.

Head of highways at Bucks County Council, Mark Averill, said drivers “have a right” to park on streets and “go about their business” and the authority is investigating ways to “balance” the needs of motorists and residents.

He said: “Lower Road is a difficult road as it a residential road, it is a well parked road from residents’ perspective, it also attracts a lot of all-day stayers, a lot of people who just dump their car and go somewhere else.

“What the team has come up with is a scheme that has looked at and is recommending a mix of residential and limited waiting.”

Residents have launched a petition calling for action to be taken to solve the issue – which they say has affected the village for “years”.

The petition will be presented to Bucks County Council and Chiltern District Council during public meetings.
