LEGOLAND Windsor has quashed rumours of a swam of midges over the theme park after tourists were left baffled by a hovering black ring they spotted in the sky at the weekend.
Experts believed the ring could have been a swarm of chironomidae – non-biting midge – which were reacting to the noise from the tourist attraction.
It caused confusion among tourists – one of whom thought it was bees, with others speculating it could be smoke from a circular chimney.
But a number of visitors claimed on social media it was simply a ring of smoke from the cannon fire of the theme park’s pirate show, with LEGOLAND confirming this on Twitter this morning (April 9).
A spokesman wrote: “We can confirm that this is smoke from the pirate cannon in our stunt show, Return to Skeleton Bay.”
