Shakespeare's most magical play will be performed in a beautiful woodland session this July as Windsor Theatre Guild revives its traditional open air summer production.

The Guild has been operating for 80 years is one of the longest running theatre groups in Berkshire.

It regularly stages productions at the Guildhall in Windsor and other top local venues. But its much loved Shakespeare productions have fallen by the wayside in recent years owing to problems with aircraft noise and lack of suitable venues.

Until now.

Now Shakespeare is back on the agenda - with the wooded grounds of Foxleigh Grove, Holyport in Forest Green Road providing the perfect setting for the Guild's production of A Midsummer Night's Dream.

The play famously interweaves three stories - the clash between Oberon and Titania the king and queen of the fairies, the misadventues of young lovers Hermia and Lysender and the problems of an inept group of 'theatricals' preparing a play for the Duke of Athens' wedding.

Local musician Rob Harris - as well as playing Bottom the weaver - has written an original score for the show which will be performed live by the cast.

Director Anna Jones said: "Our amazing production manager who is an all round amazing woman has ensured we have lanterns for moons, tails for dogs and lions, flowers for bouquets, goblets for weddings, fur for Bottom's head, leather bound books for Athenian law - the list goes on and on.

"The production team are making much preparation to make the audience experience at the beautiful outdoor Foxleigh site memorable and comfortable."

The show is on from Thursday to Saturday, July 4 to 6 and July 11 to 13, nightly at 8pm.

No seating is provided so audiences are invited to bring their own seats or groundsheets. The grounds open at 6.30pm so people are welcomed to bring a picnic.

Rrefreshments will be available before and after the show - parking on the grounds is free.
