The body of a man has been found inside a flat at Princess Street, Maidenhead after firefighters were called to reports of smoke coming from the block.
Two crews from Maidenhead and one from Windsor and Slough Fire Stations along with two officers went to the scene at 3.10am this morning after reports were received of smoke coming from the block.
Six firefighters in breathing apparatus used two hose reels to extinguish the blaze affecting one of the flats. A fan was used to ventilate the floor that the fire was located on.
Residents from the block were safely evacuated, with firefighters rescuing six residents from the building.
The body of a man was discovered inside one of the flats.
A Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service Fire Investigation Officer is working with Thames Valley Police to investigate the cause of the fire.
