Emergency services descended on Bourne End late last night amid reports a car had gone into the River Thames.
A police helicopter hovered over the area for around an hour searching for the vehicle and Thames Valley Police officers scoured the scene looking for it.
Bucks Fire and Rescue's water recue unit from Beaconsfield was called to the river - off Andrews Reach - just before 10pm on Sunday night.
Firefighters from High Wycombe and Maidenhead also attended and carried out a "comprehensive" search of the river but the incident was left with police.
In a statement to the Bucks Free Press this morning, police confirmed the vehicle is "yet to be recovered from the water at this time".
