GENEROUS members of Windsor Yacht Club have raised £10,000 to help transform the lives of deaf children - thanks to the club's new Commodore Robin Bartropp.

When Mr Bartropp was elected Commodore of The Windsor Yacht Club for 2019, one of his duties was to decide the name of the charity to benefit from their annual fundraising auction.

Mr Batropp’s daughter Lucy is a teacher at Mary Hare School for deaf children in Newbury. So he did not have to think too hard.

On Sunday, August 4 members of the club - based at Windsor Marina in Maidenhead Road - hosted a charity auction.

Theresa Bartropp, who was responsible for getting the donations for the auction lots, was delighted with the contributions from local companies and members of the club.

Lots ranged from a stay at a villa in Spain (which raised £3,000), a week in an apartment overlooking Plymouth harbour, to foldable bikes and afternoon tea.

Isabella Giddins, a year 12 pupil from Mary Hare School spoke about how why this school is so important.

She said: “I had a really amazing and fun afternoon at The Windsor Yacht Club. They raised so much money for Mary Hare and I want to say a huge thank you for their kindness and generosity. They're awesome.”

Mary Hare School is currently raising £3 million towards the building of a new, national Primary School for deaf children. The contribution of £10,000 from The Windsor Yacht Club pushed the appeal total to just over £2 million.
