Year 11 students from two of Marlow’s secondary schools celebrated getting their GCSE results today.

Teenagers from Great Marlow School and Sir William Borlase's Grammar School received their results on August 22, with both schools enjoying a high rate of passes.

GMS (Great Marlow School) saw 70 per cent of their students gain grades 9-4, with almost 60 per cent of their students achieving grades 9-5.

English was the standout subject at the school with 88 per cent of students achieving a grade 4 or above, with 70 per cent of students achieving grade 5 or higher.

Head of English Charlotte Bevan told the Bucks Free Press: “Together, we all worked very hard as we did a lot of extra sessions for students of all abilities, and I think that helped the students get the results they got.”

Headteacher Mr Kevin Ford then added: “We are delighted with these fantastic results.

“The students in this year group have worked incredibly hard to achieve the results they have today.

“The students have been very ably supported by their highly skilled teachers, dedicated parents and carers; it is this collaborative approach that has enabled the successes today.

“This clearly demonstrates that Great Marlow School, enables students of all ability profiles to reach their full potential.”

One of the standout students was Brandon Wheal, who achieved a double 8 in science, a 9 in geography, an 8 in maths and stats, a 7 in business and drama and a 6 in English Literature.

He said: “I’m really overwhelmed by my results.

"I did a lot of revision and I did a lot of after school sessions.

“I did find it difficult to revise at home at first, but I felt I put more effort doing the work at school.

“It’s just a great feeling seeing the results. I'm very happy.”

His mum, Justine Wheal then added: “I feel very emotional. I’m so proud of Brandon.

“He has always worked hard and has taken his schoolwork quite seriously.

“The last year or so, he has really worked his socks off as he is very committed.

"I actually didn’t have to nag him when it came to getting him to revise, as he set himself goals and targets.

"The work has paid off.”

Borlase’s also enjoyed a successful year of GCSE passes, as the school saw a 22 per cent increase in grade 9s and a 47 per cent rise for grades 8 and 9 from the year before.

Headteacher Kay Mountfield said: “These results reflect the hard work and sustained commitment of the students and staff throughout the duration of the courses, as well as a focused approach to revision.

“Our students manage their studies alongside very busy extra-curricular commitments and volunteering both inside and outside school.

"We are all very proud of their achievements.

Twins Izzy and Bridget Smith, who enjoyed a collection of passes, told the Bucks Free Press: “Overall, the teachers and the heads of departments have been very good.

“We had lots of support sessions at lunch that we could go to, and all the teachers have been very helpful."
