A WOMAN taking her sick child to hospital was accosted by a sex offender who tried to kiss her.

Bolton Crown Court heard that the mum had just pulled into the car park outside the accident and emergency department at the Royal Bolton Hospital when Pawel Patakowski opened the vehicle's door, leant in and repeatedly tried to kiss her.

The shocked woman managed to push him away and lock her door after which Patakowski grabbed his own groin.

Sarah Johnston, prosecuting told how, at the time, Patakowski was subject to a community sentence for similar offences against women in Bamber Bridge six months earlier.

Kevin Liston, defending, described 26-year-old Patakowski as a Jekyll and Hyde character who behaves badly when he is drunk and he appealed to Judge Timothy Stead not to jail him.

But, imposing a seven month prison sentence, Judge Timothy Stead said: "I think the general public, who are truly sickened by this sort of conduct at a hospital, would be disturbed if I were not to impose a sentence of immediate imprisonment on you."

Patakowski was also placed on the sex offenders' register for 10 years.

Miss Johnston had told the court how police were called to Curley's Fishery, Horwich, on July 6 where a drunk Patakowski was swimming.

He was taken to hospital where he was to receive treatment for a low body temperature but managed to slip away while he was not being supervised and wandered into the car park.

When security staff caught up with him, after he had encountered the woman driver, he headbutted their vehicle, cracking the windscreen.

When questioned by police he told them: "I don't need a solicitor. I know I have been bad."

Patakowski, of Manor House Lane, Preston, pleaded guilty to attempted sexual assault and criminal damage.

Mr Liston said Patakowski, came to the UK six years ago and has been a hard worker, but admits that his character changes when he binge drinks.

He added that since his latest offending Patakowski has stopped drinking alcohol.
