Reading could get a new town centre car park, after plans were submitted by Reading Borough Council (RBC).
The plans would see a vacant area of land off Abattoirs Road, next to the existing Cattle Market car park, converted into a new public facility.
RBC want to remove some of the existing buildings and build a 47-space car park with four disabled bays.
The application will be considered by the council’s Planning Applications committee in the near future.

Reading’s town centre currently has 7,112 public car park spaces. The council’s interim parking policy states that there should be a maximum of 8,500 spaces in central Reading.
There are also 223 on-street pay and display spaces within the town centre.
A previous plan for the site in 2017 proposed a 72-space car park. It was given permission, but a section 106 agreement was never signed.
Developers wanted to build a new long-stay car park on the outskirts of the town centre.
The council’s parking policy states at least 70 per cent of parking should be short-stay.
