MEMBERS of a Wigton Scouts group are reflecting on a jam-packed summer of activities that saw some complete their Duke of Edinburgh expeditions and others take an eight-day camping trip to Ireland.

Twenty-two Scouts from 1st Wigton Baden-Powell Scouts were based at Lough Dan, near Dublin, camping in patrols, doing all the cooking and building a camp for themselves.

Two Cubs were invested into the troop. Henry Armstrong and Kyle Lattimer both solemnly made their Scout promise and were awarded their investiture badges at the start of the camp while two of the older Scouts were invested into the Seniors. William Brown and Scott Cooper-Holmes have been in the group for a number of years and are now proudly wearing the maroon beret to symbolise the move.

Throughout the week the Scouts had challenges and badge work to complete. Arran de Mello and Robbie Anson excelled in their patrols, working constantly and urging others in order to gain maximum points.

One of the youngest members, Sam Lee, tackled everything that was set before him and managed to pass several sections of badge work including knots, map reading and tent pitching.

Lucy Anson and Skye Lattimer took half a day out from camp to meet Scouts and leaders from an association joining the World Federation of Independent Scouts, of which scout leader Julie is second Chairman.

Group leader, Julie Bryceson, said: “I had arranged to meet the leaders and they asked if I wanted to bring any Scouts with me, so myself and another leader picked the two who were the keenest.

“Lucy and Skye were given neckers and badges from the new association and enjoyed time with the Irish leaders and Scouts.”

The Wigton Scouts are now preparing for a camp near Alnwick later this month, where they will be hiking and carrying out Scout tests as part of an area competition.
