The annual Windsor Half Marathon is coming to Windsor Great Park on Sunday September 29.

The race starts and finishes in the shadow of Windsor Castle within Windsor Great Park, giving runners the chance to enjoy the charms of the only Royal Park managed by The Crown Estate.

The course is made up of two laps, one about four miles, the other 7.5miles with the remainder made up by the 1.5 mile Long Walk at the start and end of the race.

The course itself is all on road and quite challenging with plenty of hills spread around the route. But what goes up must come down and beautiful scenery and traffic free roads makes for a wonderful experience.

The impressive sight of Windsor Castle in the distance beyond the finish line usually gives the final spur to those taking part to make it to the end.

Help is also offered by the Bodyhealththerapies company which offers massages before the event to get people ready or afterwards to help them recover.

This year’s will be the 37th half marathon and is expected to attract the usual crowds.

The Royal Borough’s mayor Cllr Sayonara Luxton will start the race off at 10am.

There will be a children’s entertainer and bouncy castle to keep the family entertained.

But runners and visitors are warned to avoid Windsor Town Centre if they are driving in as major congestion is expected.
