Making friends proved 'plain sailing' for two residents of Windsor's Mountbatten Grange care home in Helston Lane - when they discovered a mutual love of the river.

Annie Thelwell, 92, used to take regular trips along the Thames. So when fellow resident Margaret Purvis made a wish through the home's Wishing Tree to cruise down the river so Annie could show her the sights and places she used to visit the management team were happy to make it come true.

As a result, a group of residents and Mountbatten Grange team members travelled to Runnymede for a cruise upstream through Old Windsor, followed by a pub lunch.

Debbie Winwood, home manager, said: "Our wishing tree is a fantastic way to understand what’s really important to residents.

"Annie speaks fondly of the years she spent boating and exploring old Windsor, so we are thrilled we could help her to reminisce and share this experience with one of her closest friends. It was wonderful to see her light up the minute she stepped on board, and to hear so many stories and anecdotes from her younger years. It was a fantastic experience for everyone involved and I am so pleased we were able to make Annie and Margaret’s wish come true.”
