THE 23rd Lions' Swimathon at Windsor Leisure Centre on Sunday raised five and a half thousand pounds on the day in sponsorship.
It brings the total amount made for good causes by the Swimathons over the last 22 years up to £185,000.
Veteran organiser Mike Sells - who directed the first swimathon all those years ago - said that a further £15,000 was expected this year after individual teams had collected money from all their sponsors in the coming weeks.
A total of 47 teams entered the swimathon including the Mayor’s team, the Electric Eels team for young people with Down Syndrome, teams from local schools, brownies, guides, scouts, Burnham Youth Club, Windsor Horse Rangers, SportsAble and other Lions groups.
Teams each had up to eight members who had to swim for 55 minutes in relay to raise funds for their chosen cause.
Mr Sells praised 'a great performance by all of the teams for the benefits of many great causes'.
