AN AREA in Tilehurst has been cordoned off after police heard rumours of 'gunshots being fired' in the early hours of Wednesday morning (October 16).
Laytom Rise in Tilehurst has been cordoned off with police tape as investigations are being carried out.
The playing fields next to Downsway Primary School has also been cordoned off with police tape.
The Chronicle understands that Thames Valley Police will be providing a statement on the incident later today.
A dog walker, who didn't want to be named, said: "I heard from someone there were some shots fired. Apart from that, the local schools are in lockdown."

Rumours of gunshots being heard circulated on social media, with one resident saying: "Wasn’t there shots fired in Tilehurst and armed police?"
Some residents in the neighbourhood received a flyer from police appealing for witnesses to the incident.
As well as this, schools and nurseries were told to be on 'lockdown' at 2pm today.
Hi @TVP_Reading @TVP_WestBerks is this flyer real? And if so is it the same reason that schools and nurseries were told to “lockdown” at 2pm? Lots of rumours and very little has been shared with parents @berkshire_live pic.twitter.com/yNOptZAWk0
