A MAN admitted himself to hospital in the early hours of the morning after suffering a gunshot wound to his shoulder.

The 40-year-old victim has since been discharged from hospital.

Police officers quickly responded to reports of gunshots being fired in Laytom Rise in Tilehurst at around 3.35am (October 16).

Thames Valley Police are appealing for witnesses in case they saw or heard anything that may help investigations. 

A scene watch is currently in place and the road is cordoned off, as well as the playing fields next to Downsway Primary School. 

No arrests have been made. 

Investigating officer, Detective Inspector Alice Broad, based at Newbury police station, said: "An investigation into this incident is underway and officers are at the scene carrying out enquiries.

"I understand that there may be some concern in the community about this, but I would like to reassure people that we believe this to be an isolated, targeted incident where all parties involved were known to each other.
