Windsor's Trevelyan Middle School has been rated as 'good' with outstanding features by government inspectors - having battled its way back from an inspection almost five years ago that found it needed improvement.

The middle school in Wood Close that caters for the town's nine to 13-year-olds became part of the Pioneer Educational Trust in November, 2016 - the other two schools in the trust being Upton Court Grammar School in Lascelles Road and Foxborough Primary School in Common Road.

The recent two-day inspection by Ofsted took place at the beginning of October and was took place under the much publicised new education inspection framework issued for September 2019.

Although the overall rating for the school was 'good', inspectors judged the areas of behaviour and attitudes and personal development to be 'outstanding'.

The report said: “Pupils are motivated to behave and work exceptionally well, both independently and with others. Leaders have planned a well-structured and ambitious curriculum to deepen pupils’ knowledge and understanding. Pupils are happy at Trevelyan. The school’s values of forward thinking, social responsibility, curiosity and resilience are at the heart of its work. Trustees of the multi-academy trust have a clear vision for the school and work closely with governors and leaders.”

To improve further inspectors said the school needs to ensure that teachers help pupils to retain, recall and build on what they have learned in all subjects.

Headteacher Nicola Chandler said: “We have been on an incredible journey together as a team and I am therefore overwhelmingly proud of this achievement. This is testament to the relentless hard work, commitment and dedication of our leaders, teachers, staff, pupils and families; to say we are all delighted is an understatement. It means so much to us that our pupils are receiving the enriched education that they all deserve and which prepares them so well for their next stage of education and beyond."

Following the success of 2019 Key Stage 2 SATs, recent data published puts Trevelyan Middle School in the top 20 per cent of schools in the country for reading and writing, in both progress and attainment.
