A festival conceived in 2009 by a trio of local beer lovers was still going strong at the weekend in Datchet.

The Datchet Beer Festival has even spread over into a second day since its early beginnings - with 'thirsty Friday' becoming a firm fixture alongside Saturday's Connoisseur's Afternoon and Beerlover's Evening.

This year featured the widest selection of beers yet - well over 20 real ales and ciders mainly sourced from local breweries with a few surprises from further afield.

All profits this year went to the Scout Association.

The festival can no longer be regarded as one of Datchet's best kept secrets with as many as 500 people now attending annually, from as far afield as Newcastle, Cardiff, Brighton and Bristol - even Belgium and in 2017 from Germany.

Unpleasant weather made Datchet Village Hall seem even more welcoming on Saturday last beer lovers gathered to enjoy the brews.

Operations director David Smith said: "The one thing all our visitors have in common is the love of a great time. Our festival's aim is simple - to serve great beer and great food, deliver great entertainment, host great company and ensure a great time."
