Visitors flooded to Windsor over the weekend to say goodbye to the giant pride of lions that has 'guarded' sites around the Royal Borough for the last three months.

The Lions Roar Goodbye held in Windsor Yards shopping centre gave fans an opportunity to see them for one last time and select which lion they might like to bid for when they are auctioned on Thursday, November 28.

Visitors enjoyed an exhibition of lion artists' work, design-a-lion workshops, face painting, live entertainment, competitions, Antiques Roarshow valuations from Dawson’s auctioneers and exclusively designed lion merchandise.

The supersized lion and cub sculptures were displayed across Windsor and the surrounding region for three months over the summer of 2019 to celebrate the 200th anniversary of Queen Victoria and raise funds for local charities.

They were transformed into a wide range of styles, from fine art to mosaics, street art and illustrations to colourful abstract designs by leading artists and designers from around the world.

The 31 large lion sculptures and seven smaller lion cubs will be auctioned by Hugh Creasy, Christie’s Business Director at the Runnymede at Thames Hotel and Spa, Egham on November 28.

The gala auction evening will be hosted by the Nations favourite BBC Radio 4 panellist Tim Brooke-Taylor OBE and there will be entertainment from West End stars David Albury and Cherelle Williams.

A limited number of £70 tickets are available to attend the gala evening and include a champagne reception, three course bowl food, wine on the table, cheese platter, lion chocolates, auction catalogue and entertainment.

The auction will be live streamed by UK Auctioneers for online bidders and telephone and absentee bidding will also be available.
